Certified Medical Assistant Apprenticeship

Medical assistants are essential care workers who perform medical and clinical procedures as well as offer administrative support to medical offices.

The MA apprenticeship program provides the opportunity to turn a GED or high school diploma into a certification to work in medical care. Apprentices who earn their certification will have the opportunity to advance their careers, increase their skills and earning potential.

Requirements for the program are that the applicant be at least 18 years of age and have either a GED or high school diploma.

The Details: Related Training Instruction (RTI)

The ‘classroom’ component of the MA Apprenticeship will be delivered asynchronously through the US Career Institute.

Over 12 months, apprentices take a pre-established set of courses:

  • Introduction to Medical Records

  • Anatomy and Disease Processes

  • Medical Ethics and Responsibilities

  • Blood Testing

  • Pharmacology

  • …and more!

Coursework is online, completed on your own schedule and at your preferred pace. Previous relevant experience can also help you complete the certification process sooner.

The Details: On-the-Job Training (OJT)

While engaged in the MA apprenticeship, you will receive clinical supervision from your employer. You will receive ‘on-the-job training’ from CMA-certified colleagues. Certain positions/shifts may not be suitable for this activity, in which case, you may need to make some change to your current role.

Your employer may also offer ‘on-the-job learning’ or continuing education opportunities. These may help you complete your CMA certification process more quickly.

The Details: Costs

Participants in the apprenticeship program will not have any cost for the training.

Along with receiving completely free education and paid training, individuals in the program also receive additional financial stipends and support based on individual need. The program also covers the cost for participants to prepare for and sit for the national medical assistant certification exam.
